Brian Millett, Yass FM Patron –
We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our Patron, Brian Millett, who died peacefully aged 92 at Horton House on 18 July 2025.
Brian holds a very special place in the history of Yass FM. He was our very first President and played a pivotal role in bringing the station to life — from navigating our initial licence applications to sourcing equipment and setting up our very first home in the old Waterworks building. His leadership, determination and belief in community radio laid the groundwork for the station we are so proud of today.
After stepping down from the presidency, Brian continued to support Yass FM as our Patron — the only person ever to hold that title. He remained an active voice on-air for many years, best known for his Friday afternoon show Brian’s Brew, where he shared his love of classical music. It was a unique offering at the time and reflected his deep passion for the arts and his involvement in the Yass Music Club. His program was a forerunner to what is now The Vineyard Selection, continuing the tradition he helped begin.
Many of us at Yass FM had the joy of working alongside Brian. Our President, Geoff Frost, recalls how he was lucky enough to co-host Yes, Yass It’s Saturday with him for many years — and it remains one of the highlights of his time at the station.
Even after retiring from regular broadcasting, Brian remained closely connected to Yass FM. His recent donation of his full music library has been an incredible gift to us, and it now forms a significant part of our music collection.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Brian’s family and our thoughts are with them all at this time.
